Accra: Prophet Samuel Henry, popularly known as Prophet Roja, has claimed that the country will not hold elections in 2028, stating that some events are expected to unfold in 2026 that will ultimately affect Ghana's electoral process. According to him, a conversation about the next election will start, move to Parliament, and have consequences for the 2028 elections.
According to Ghana Web, Prophet Roja stated in a viral video that in 2026, there will be discussions about the election, which will culminate in Parliament by June and impact the 2028 election. He urged Members of Parliament to pass laws that benefit Ghanaians, emphasizing his lack of political ambition while advocating for legislative action in the public's interest.
Prophet Roja further explained that election outcomes are first determined in the spiritual realm before manifesting physically. He claimed that the spiritual realm will open from September to October in the next election cycle, advising Members of Parliament seeking to retain their seats to seek spiritual guidance during this period.
His comments come amid discussions over Ghana's presidential term limits, following a suit filed at the Supreme Court by two individuals seeking an interpretation of Article 66(2) of the 1992 Constitution. The provision states that a person shall not be elected to hold office as President of Ghana for more than two terms. The suits, filed separately by Ganiwu Alhassan and Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie, ask the Supreme Court to determine whether the two-term limit bars only consecutive service or any form of two-term service.
President John Dramani Mahama, who returned to office in 2025 after previously serving as president from 2013 to 2017, emphasized his focus on fulfilling his mandate. He directed his ministers to work with urgency to deliver on the government's commitments within the available period, asserting his intention to meet the promises made to the Ghanaian people.
The Supreme Court's interpretation of the presidential term limit provision is expected to provide clarity on whether a person who has served two separate terms can seek re-election.
