Accra: Professor Goski Alabi, President of Laweh Open University, has praised the newly launched books by Sub-Lieutenant Rebecca Owusu as a valuable gift designed to inspire readers to overcome life's challenges through faith, resilience, and positive thinking. Speaking at the launch event in Accra, Prof. Alabi highlighted the transformative messages contained in the books, "When Life Says No, Say Yes to Yourself" and "Armour for the Soul: Overcoming Life's Challenges as a Man," emphasizing their potential to offer hope to those facing adversity.
According to Ghana News Agency, Prof. Alabi, speaking on behalf of Prof. Joshua Alabi, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, congratulated the author, describing her as a courageous and wise woman whose writings would leave a lasting impact on generations. She reminisced about her childhood experiences with inspirational books by Norman Vincent Peale, which influenced her outlook on life and noted that Owusu's books could similarly shape lives for years to come.
Prof. Alabi acknowledged that while people have limited control over their circumstances, they can choose how to respond to life's challenges. She stressed that everyone encounters moments when life seems to say 'no,' but emphasized the importance of choosing hope, faith, and perseverance to move forward. Sharing a personal story, she recounted how a disappointing A-Level examination result affected her deeply, leading to serious illness, but with family support, faith, and determination, she recovered and achieved academic success.
She advised that setbacks should not define one's future and encouraged individuals to hold on to their dreams and aspirations. Additionally, she highlighted the importance of developing a strong spiritual foundation, suggesting that spirituality provides strength when human support systems fail, and emphasized the need for a deeper connection with a higher power.
Prof. Alabi commended Sub-Lt Owusu for inspiring others through her experiences and for documenting lessons from her life journey. Sub-Lieutenant Rebecca Owusu, a Senior Midwife and Rehabilitation Officer at the 37 Military Hospital, explained that her books were inspired by personal struggles and experiences of healing, aimed at encouraging readers to rise above rejection, fear, and self-doubt. She announced that 50 per cent of the book sales proceeds would support the Ghana Armed Forces Special Needs Centre project.
She urged Ghanaians to embrace writing and knowledge-sharing for personal growth and national development and appealed to patrons to support the Special Needs Centre project, emphasizing its importance in improving care and training opportunities for children with special needs within the Ghana Armed Forces community. The launch event was attended by senior military officers, health professionals, academics, clergy, family members, and well-wishers.
