Sunyani: Mr Yaw Dabie Mensah Appiah, a member of the Bono Regional Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged delegates participating in the party's Bono Regional Executive Election to vote on merit and prioritise the interests of the party and its 2028 Presidential Candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Mensah Appiah made these remarks after casting his ballot at the GNAT Hall in Sunyani, where the election was held. He advised delegates to elect loyal, competent, and dedicated candidates who are capable of advancing the vision and electoral fortunes of the party.
The election, supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC), was reported to be progressing smoothly with a strong security presence maintained by the Ghana Police Service at the venue.
Mr Mensah Appiah, 75, a former Organiser of the NPP in the then Brong-Ahafo Region and popularly known in political circles as 'Orga', highlighted the crucial role of delegates' choices in shaping the party's future success. He stressed, "Our Election 2028 victory largely depends on the candidates you are about to pick today."
He further emphasized the dependency of Bawumia and the NPP on delegates' decisions for securing a political victory in 2028, lauding the transparent nature of the election process and expressing optimism for a peaceful conclusion to the exercise.
Looking forward to the 2028 General Election, Mr Mensah Appiah urged the party to maintain unity and focus on promoting the ideals and leadership qualities of Dr Bawumia. He cautioned against internal disputes and unnecessary disagreements that could undermine the party's success.
In a separate interview, Mr Gabriel Korang, the Bono Regional Communications Officer of the NPP, stated that 281 delegates were expected to vote in the election. The delegates were tasked with electing office holders from 29 candidates vying for various regional executive positions, including Regional Chairman, First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Regional Secretary, Treasurer, Organiser, Women's Organiser, Youth Organiser, Communications Officer, and Nasara Coordinator.
