Washington: President Donald Trump is expected to announce his intent to nominate Kevin Warsh as the next Federal Reserve chair, according to two people involved in the process. Trump, who has been considering this decision for several months, had narrowed down the list of candidates to four in recent weeks. On Thursday night, Trump informed reporters that he had finalized his choice and would formally announce it on Friday.
According to Ghana Web, Trump expressed confidence in his decision, stating, "I'm going to be announcing, I think, a really great choice tomorrow," as he arrived at the premiere of first lady Melania Trump's documentary. Although Trump did not reveal his selection, it is reported that Warsh met with him at the White House on Thursday. This meeting, along with subsequent preparations, indicates that Warsh is likely to be Trump's nominee.
The White House and Warsh have not yet responded to requests for comment. While Trump has not publicly disclosed his choice, and administration officials have advised caution until an official announcement is made, preparations for the announcement were reportedly underway.
Trump emphasized the qualifications of his choice, saying, "It's going to be somebody that is very respected, somebody that's known to everybody in the financial world." The final candidates under consideration included Warsh, National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, BlackRock executive Rick Rieder, and Fed Governor Christopher Waller. Trump conducted in-person interviews with each candidate before reaching his decision.
Warsh has been a prominent contender for the role and previously met with Trump in December for a formal interview. Trump's advisors viewed the meeting positively, and Trump reportedly expressed that Warsh "looked the part," indicating a favorable impression.
