According to Ghana Web, the incident occurred during a session co-chaired by President Mahama and President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia. This dialogue served as a crucial platform for Ghana to exhibit its digital technologies and fintech services to Zambian enterprises and governmental bodies, aiming to bolster economic collaborations and facilitate knowledge sharing between the two nations.

The president's choice of attire, a traditional smock known as "fugu," also drew attention, sparking discussions online. President Hichilema expressed interest in acquiring one for himself after the exchange gained traction on social media.
During his visit, President Mahama engaged with the Ghanaian community in Lusaka and addressed Zambia's National Assembly, outlining Ghana's vision for a more united and prosperous African continent.
