Accra: President John Dramani Mahama praised Mr Julius Debrah for his loyalty, kindness, and humility, describing him as a trusted aide whose service has left a lasting impression on leadership and governance.
According to Ghana News Agency, the President commended Mr Debrah during his 60th Birthday Thanksgiving Service held at the Pentecost International Worship Centre in Accra. The event was attended by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, senior government officials, clergy, family, and well-wishers.
President Mahama reflected on his long relationship with Mr Debrah, recalling his first encounter with him during his tenure as Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress. He noted Mr Debrah's calm nature, efficiency, and affable friendliness, which commanded respect from others.
The President explained that these qualities informed his decision to appoint Mr Debrah as Minister of Local Government during his previous administration, emphasizing the significant results achieved during his tenure.
President Mahama recounted his decision to appoint Mr Debrah as Chief of Staff, citing his proven loyalty and competence. He highlighted Mr Debrah's efficiency and generosity, stating that he would share his last resource with anyone in need.
The presence of both the President and Vice President at the event was noted as a rare sign of honor to Mr Debrah, given the usual protocol discouraging such joint appearances for security reasons.
President Mahama conveyed birthday wishes from the First Lady, Lordina, who was absent due to commitments in Dubai. He humorously welcomed Mr Debrah into the 'Senior Citizens Club,' suggesting he adopt more noble behaviors befitting his age.
Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, delivered a sermon on the importance of a good name, urging the congregation to invest in virtues that build a lasting legacy. He prayed for Mr Debrah, wishing him long life, wisdom, and divine protection.
