President Mahama Declares No Celebrations After IMF Exit, Focuses on Economic Stability

Savannah region: President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his government will not hold any celebratory events following Ghana's exit from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme. Speaking during a community engagement in the Savannah Region, President Mahama emphasized that despite completing the IMF programme, the government remains focused on further stabilizing and strengthening the economy. According to Ghana Web, President Mahama highlighted that his administration inherited an 'off-track' economy with all key performance indicators deviating from targets when they assumed office. He detailed the rigorous measures implemented to realign the IMF programme, underscoring the need for continued economic reforms. President Mahama made it clear that his government would refrain from organizing any elaborate celebrations, such as 'kenkey and waakye parties', which have been customary in the past. He stressed that unlike previous administrations that marked their IMF programme completions with festivities, his government acknowledges the ongoing work required to ensure economic stability and growth. The president's remarks come during his 'Resetting Ghana Tour' in the Savannah Region, where he aims to engage with communities and discuss the government's efforts in reviving the national economy.
