Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has successfully concluded his two-day tour of the Volta Region as part of his nationwide 'Resetting Ghana Agenda' outreach programme. The tour reaffirms his administration's commitment to infrastructure development, economic transformation, healthcare, education, security, and citizen engagement.
According to Ghana News Agency, the President, accompanied by Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), national and regional party executives, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, and senior government officials, visited multiple sites in the region. President Mahama began his tour in Juapong, where he initiated the construction of 18 24-Hour Economy Model Markets, one in each Municipal and District Assembly in the Volta Region. These markets are part of the government's 24-Hour Economy programme aimed at boosting local commerce and economic growth.
On the first day, President Mahama also visited the Peki College of Education to inspect a newly completed 1,500-seat multipurpose assembly hall and reviewed the progress on the Asikuma-Ho Road under the government's Big Push infrastructure programme. He expressed satisfaction with the work and optimism for its early completion. Additionally, he inspected the Multi-Purpose Laboratory Complex at the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho, which is expected to enhance medical education and healthcare delivery in Ghana and West Africa.
The President also held a public engagement on the government's Free Primary Healthcare Programme, outlining measures to expand access to quality healthcare. On the second day, he inspected the Ho Sports Stadium and announced plans for its redevelopment into a modern multi-purpose sports and entertainment complex.
President Mahama engaged with citizens during a Town Hall Meeting at Ho Technical University, interacting with traditional authorities, students, and local groups. The forum allowed residents to ask questions and provided government ministers an opportunity to account for regional projects.
In Ave-Dakpa, the President commissioned the newly completed Akatsi North District Police Headquarters, highlighting its role in enhancing security and public safety. Throughout the tour, he received warm welcomes from various community leaders and residents.
Mr. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, expressed gratitude on behalf of the region's chiefs and people for the development projects initiated under President Mahama's administration. He assured the President of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council's commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of government projects to improve living conditions.
The tour exemplified President Mahama's focus on inspecting projects, engaging directly with citizens, and reinforcing the government's dedication to sustainable development in the Volta Region.
