Accra: The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin, has expressed that John Dramani Mahama is more apt to lead nations such as the United States of America, the United Kingdom, or Norway rather than Ghana. Yamin shared his views on the leadership qualities needed for Ghana's current developmental stage.
According to Ghana Web, Yamin emphasized that Ghana requires a leader who is firm and uncompromising when it comes to enforcing discipline. In a video posted by Promise Dumevi on social media, he argued that the leadership style presently adopted in Ghana does not align with the country's needs for progress.
Yamin acknowledged that although Ghana's current president is regarded as 'a fine gentleman,' he believes that leadership suitability should vary across different countries. He commented that Donald Trump might have been more suited to preside over Ghana, while Mahama would be ideal for leading a nation like the US or Norway. He maintained his stance that Mahama's leadership style is not what Ghana requires at this time.
Furthermore, Yamin underlined the necessity for stronger oversight and rapid enforcement of anti-corruption measures, particularly from state bodies in charge of investigations. He pointed out that delays in prosecutions under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative are contributing to public discontent. He stressed the need for a president who can direct the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to expedite corruption investigations.
Yamin also raised concerns about the handling of corruption-related issues, insisting on the need for more thorough investigations into past government programmes. He questioned the silence surrounding potential corruption in previous administrations, suggesting that this lack of action could be due to the passage of time.
In his concluding remarks, Yamin attributed Ghana's governance challenges to a lack of discipline within society and institutions. He emphasized the importance of having a leader who can instill discipline and drive progress in the country.
