Bo waterside border post: Sierra Leone's Head of State, His Excellency, Julius Maada Bio joined Liberia's President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. launching 255-kilometre road upgrading project employing Design Build Operate Transfer concession, enhancing Mano River Union trade integration West Africa.
According to Sierra Leone News Agency, this transformative infrastructure spans two vital corridors. The western route features a four-lane expressway connecting St. Paul Bridge through Klay toward Bo Waterside, plus links Klay Tubmanburg and Madina Junction, Robertsport. The northern corridor comprises an 86-kilometre two-lane thoroughfare joining Voinjama with Mendikorma.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Bio hailed it as a historic milestone. Reduced travel duration, lower transport expenses, plus seamless movement for people, goods, services across borders will follow. The initiative demonstrates shared governmental commitment toward stronger economic ties and improved citizen livelihoods.
Recalling past cross-border travel hardships, Bio declared the project signals a fresh cooperation chapter. He praised Boakai's visionary leadership, noting this endeavour represents a deliberate partnership choice, collaborative spirit, plus regional advancement.
Both nations understand the peace value, Bio stressed, alongside rebuilding through unity and resilience. Current stability enables large-scale infrastructure investments like this undertaking. 'The project represents a peace dividend,' Bio stated, reflecting collective sacrifices from both citizenries achieving stability and progress. He urged residents to maintain peace, unity, national development.
As ECOWAS Authority Chair, Bio emphasised broader West African significance. This 255-kilometre corridor forms a critical economic infrastructure component, advancing ECOWAS regional integration goals. 'Not simply Liberia's road project,' he said. 'A regional statement strengthening connectivity, boosting commerce, moving us closer toward a truly integrated West African market.'
Expected outcomes include a commerce surge, mobility enhancement, deeper sub-regional cooperation, reinforcing a shared sustainable development vision plus economic transformation.
