Pregnant Women Advised to Maintain Balanced Diet for Healthier Pregnancies

Ashaiman: Pregnant women have been advised to maintain a well-balanced diet to support their health and that of their unborn babies. Madam Anita Kwantrah, a Registered Nurse Assistant at Okanta Medical Centre, emphasized the importance of proper nutrition for the healthy growth and development of the foetus.

According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Kwantrah explained in an interview that a balanced diet provides expectant mothers with the necessary energy to manage the physical demands of pregnancy, while also supporting the baby's growth and brain development. She highlighted the need for essential nutrients such as iron, calcium, protein, folic acid, and omega-3 fatty acids to promote healthy development and reduce the risk of complications during pregnancy.

Madam Kwantrah stressed the importance of iron-rich foods like leafy green vegetables and fortified cereals, which aid in the production of red blood cells. This process is crucial for supplying oxygen to the baby and preventing maternal anaemia. She also encouraged pregnant women to incorporate foods such as eggs, beans, poultry, nuts, and fish into their diets to ensure adequate nutrient intake.

Furthermore, she advised expectant mothers to attend regular antenatal clinics where they could receive guidance on proper nutrition and various aspects of maternal health. Madam Kwantrah concluded by stating that maintaining healthy eating habits during pregnancy significantly contributes to positive outcomes for both mother and child.
