Kumasi: A pregnant woman, Priscilla Sackey, from the Ashanti Region, is pleading with authorities to release her husband, 33-year-old Eric Agyei, who is serving a six-year jail term at Kumasi Central Prison for abusing her in their marital home. The couple has two children together. Priscilla explained that she only reported her husband to the police hoping he would be punished and reformed, not jailed for such a long period. She believes he has now changed and deserves forgiveness.
According to Ghana Web, Priscilla recounted her attempts to plead with the court for leniency during her husband's trial. She expressed her belief that Eric would change, but the judge did not accept her plea. "I pleaded with the court to forgive him because I believed he would change but the judge didn't accept. He was jailed for six years. I cried and begged but the court didn't listen," she recounted.
Speaking in an interview with Crime Check TV on YouTube, Priscilla disclosed that her husband had a history of substance abuse, including marijuana and tramadol, which often triggered violent behavior. "He smokes weed and tramadol and whenever he does, he starts beating me. He stopped for a while but when I got pregnant, he started again. That's why I reported that he be punished so he would change. But when he came back, he asked why I reported him and he beat me again, leaving me injured," she said.
Priscilla added that the judge emphasized her pregnancy during the trial, noting that Eric should not have assaulted a pregnant woman. This, she explained, was a key reason for his six-year sentence. Despite this, she continues to plead with the court for her husband's forgiveness. "But I am pleading with the court to forgive him," Priscilla appealed.
