Accra: Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, has emphasized the need for major policy shifts and innovative interventions to achieve accessible, inclusive, and meaningful education in Ghana. These efforts aim to develop employable skills, promote innovative enterprises, and advance excellence in human capital. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Iddrisu highlighted the importance of uncapping the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) and directing its resources towards its core mandate, including massive infrastructural development in educational institutions. His message was delivered by Professor Mrs Smile Dzisi, the Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service, at the 22nd congregation ceremony of the Koforidua Technical University (KTU). Mr Iddrisu detailed the government's initiatives, such as the NO-FEE-STRESS policy, which absorbs fees for the first year of higher education in public universities and colleges, and offers free higher education for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Thes e measures, alongside an enhanced student loan scheme, are expected to expand access, promote inclusion, and ease financial burdens on students and families. He further stated that these innovative social interventions would improve the life outcomes of the youth and contribute to building the desired future for Ghana. The Minister urged higher learning institutions to collaborate with industries to create transformational curricula that address employability gaps and support economic growth. Mr Iddrisu challenged Technical Universities to prioritize employable skills and practical entrepreneurship in their educational offerings, emphasizing their role in leading the nation towards a stronger economy and better standards of living.
