Techiman: The Ghana Police Service in the Bono East Region has successfully returned a bag containing GHS85,000 to its rightful owner after it was discovered abandoned along the Techiman-Kumasi Highway. The bag, which is believed to have fallen from a moving vehicle, was found by officers at a snap checkpoint in the early hours of Friday, February 14, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the officers, led by Inspector George Appiah, retrieved the bag at approximately 4:20 AM. The bag had the name 'Ofori' and a phone number written on it. Following due protocol, the officers forwarded the bag to the regional command for proper verification.
Further investigation led the police to contact the number inscribed on the bag, reaching its owner, 53-year-old businessman Stephen Ofori from Ashtown in Kumasi. Ofori confirmed ownership and explained that the money was being transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi aboard a commercial vehicle. The money was duly counted and verified in Ofori's presence before being returned to him.
The Bono East Regional Police Command praised the officers for their professionalism and diligence. They also expressed gratitude to the public for their assistance in drawing attention to the abandoned bag, which facilitated the prompt return of the lost funds.
