Bolgatanga: Two suspects have died, while four others have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service following a series of violent armed robbery incidents across the Upper East Region. The four suspects-Masawudu Kasim, 38; Malik Baako Issah, 38; Mohammed Amidu, 35; and Wadud Abdul Adam, 29-were apprehended at their hideout in Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East District. Another suspect known as 'DJ' remains at large.
According to Ghana News Agency, a statement from the Upper East Regional Police Command revealed that the arrests were made after a special intelligence team dismantled a robbery gang responsible for several violent attacks in the region on April 29, 2026. A search of the location led to the recovery of a G3 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition. This weapon had been concealed in the storage compartment of a motorbike allegedly robbed by Samsudeen Mohammed and 'DJ', who is still on the run.
The police also retrieved seven other motorbikes believed to be stolen. During interrogation, the suspects admitted their involvement in a series of robberies across the region. These include an attack on February 4, 2026, along the Zuarungu-Kongo Road, where a bus driver, Ussif Abdul Razak, sustained gunshot injuries and lost three fingers, as well as a separate attack on a cargo truck driver, Mohammed Ibrahim, on the same road.
The suspects also confessed to a robbery at the Kejetia Mining Site at Gbane on March 28, 2026, where a miner, Atani Mark, was robbed of cash and gold, among other incidents in the area. The statement added that two suspects, Samsudeen Mohammed and Seidu Safianu, who are now deceased, sustained gunshot injuries during the operation. Their bodies have been transported to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
All four suspects are currently in custody, assisting with investigations. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices, including the individual identified as 'DJ'. The police assured the public that all suspects still at large will be arrested and brought to justice.
