Nkwanta: The Nkwanta Municipal Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the unlawful possession of a firearm and a large quantity of ammunition during an intelligence-led operation at the Brewnaise Police barrier in the Oti Region.
According to Ghana Web, a statement issued by the Oti Regional Police Headquarters in Dambai, the suspects were intercepted while travelling in a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GW 9927-13.
The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Richard Kpimbi and 20-year-old Latif Adam, were detained after officers conducted a thorough search of their vehicle. Officers uncovered a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition, which had been carefully concealed within the vehicle.
"A thorough search conducted on the vehicle revealed one Adler pump-action gun," the release stated. Additionally, officers discovered "seven thousand AAA cartridges, three thousand BB cartridges, and one thousand one hundred and twenty-four live rounds of AK-47 ammunition," the statement noted. The items were reportedly hidden inside plastic sacks and boxes beneath tarpaulins in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
Both suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators with ongoing enquiries. "The suspects are in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations," the statement confirmed, highlighting that all retrieved exhibits have been retained for further action. The police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety and urged citizens to support law enforcement efforts.
