Accra: The Accra Regional Police Command has apprehended a third suspect in connection with the alleged assault of a 12-year-old girl that occurred on December 30, 2025, in La, Accra. A statement from the police, issued by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, confirmed the arrest.
According to Ghana News Agency, the suspect, Priscilla Novishie Wornyo, 49, voluntarily surrendered to the authorities on January 18, 2026. Following her self-report, she was taken into custody to assist with the ongoing investigation.
The police statement detailed that all accused individuals were presented in court on January 19, 2026. They faced charges including Conspiracy to Commit Assault under Section 23 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), Assault under Section 84 of Act 29, and Cruelty to a Child under Sections 14 and 15 of the Children's Act, 1998 (Act 560).
While two of the accused, Precious Giftan Mesopeh, 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, 25, were granted bail with two sureties each, Priscilla Novishie Wornyo was remanded in police custody. She is scheduled to reappear in court on February 2, 2026.
The Accra Regional Police Command reiterated its dedication to child protection and ensuring that those responsible for abuse face legal consequences. The command promised to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
