Accra: The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested six individuals in connection with the alleged murder of a tricycle rider at Dulugu-Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East District. The incident reportedly stemmed from the rider's failure to make the required sales.
According to Ghana News Agency, the suspects are identified as Avandiba Atubiga Kante, 26; Atua Atombire Mpika, 40; Amale Nyaaba Nicholas, 30; Atua Ayinbotima, 22; Atuah Nsobila Prosper, 21; and Ayine Albert Sunday, 39. They are currently assisting the police with ongoing investigations.
In a statement signed by Chief Inspector Abdul-Rahman Sumaila, the Upper East Regional Public Relations Officer, the Ghana Police Service detailed that the victim, Akolbila Blessing, was a tricycle rider who allegedly failed to deliver sales to the tricycle's owner, Mpika. Preliminary investigations revealed that on August 27, 2026, the victim was allegedly attacked and beaten by the six suspects due to the sales dispute.
The statement further revealed that the victim was found unconscious in his room the following day and was taken to the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The police have since apprehended the six suspects as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and the specific roles of each suspect. The police statement also cautioned the public against using violence to resolve disputes and emphasized that disagreements should be reported to the appropriate authorities for lawful resolution.
The police assured the public of their commitment to enforcing the law and bringing those found responsible to justice.
