Duta: Mr Felix Akakpo Akonta, a philanthropist known as Torgbui Tenuvi II, has extended relief support to the victims of recent flooding in Ketu South Municipality. The devastating floods came after more than nine hours of continuous rainfall, leading to widespread destruction across several communities. Homes, schools, markets, farmlands, and artisanal salt mining activities were severely affected.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Duta Electoral Area within the Aflao Traditional Area was among the hardest-hit communities, along with D©madikope, Gakli, and Agbawoeme. Mr Dynamic Akakpo, representing Mr Felix Akakpo Akonta, led the relief distribution team. Although Mr Akakpo Akonta was not present in the municipality, Mr Dynamic Akakpo conveyed his sympathies to those affected.
The relief effort was coordinated with the Ketu South office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO). The distributed items included 10 mattresses, 100 bags of rice, 15 cartons of spaghetti, 10 cartons of sardines, 200 mosquito nets, four sacks of maize (equivalent to 240 bowls), 100 litres of cooking oil, and 150 bags of sachet water. Mr Akakpo emphasized that the relief was part of his commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals during crises.
"This intervention is not a permanent solution to the recurring flooding, but a modest effort to ease the immediate burden on affected families as we await government support and long-term measures," he stated. Beneficiaries of the donation expressed their gratitude for the timely assistance, which they noted would help them manage the disaster's aftermath.
The flooding has left many residents homeless, and NADMO is conducting ongoing assessments to determine the full extent of the damage and any additional assistance required.
