Winneba: Neenyi Ghartey VII, Oma Odefe (Paramount Chief) of the Effutu Traditional Area, has stated that retirement should never be viewed as withdrawal from relevance. He said that pension was a transition into a respected phase of mentorship, guidance, reflection, and continuity of service to society.
According to Ghana News Agency, Neenyi Ghartey made the observation in an address delivered by Neenyi Apreaku, the Adontehene of the Traditional Area when he chaired the inauguration of the Effutu Chapter of the National Pensioners Association (NPA). He emphasized that pensioners are treasures of experience and fountains of wisdom, playing an immense role in shaping communities and the country as a whole.
Neenyi Ghartey, who also serves as the Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, highlighted that societal progress relies on the sacrifices of men and women who dedicated their youth to public service in fields such as education, health, and security. He assured that the Effutu Traditional Council values the wisdom and stability pensioners bring and will continue to support their welfare.
He called for the district to become a beacon of solidarity and purposeful thinking, urging society to honor and protect those who have labored for national development. He also commended the national leadership and executives of the Effutu Chapter for their hard work and visionary leadership, which brought honor to the association and the traditional area.
As the Effutu Chapter celebrates this milestone, Neenyi Ghartey encouraged unity and active participation, stressing the importance of dignity, respect, social inclusion, proper healthcare, and timely support for pensioners. He expressed hope for renewed unity and lasting success for the association and its members.
