Accra: The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta Region has a new face stepping forward with ambition and energy. Patricia Etornam Hlorbu, an entrepreneur and advocate for skills development, has officially filed her nomination to contest for the position of NPP Volta Regional Women Organizer for the 2026 elections.
According to Ghana Web, Etornam described her bid as a generational shift for the party in a region where the NPP aims to expand its political presence. She is believed to be the youngest person to contest a regional executive position in the Volta Region, garnering attention across party ranks.
Etornam's background includes entrepreneurship and public relations, along with skills development. She believes these experiences are essential for connecting with young women, market women, and professionals across the Volta Region's 18 constituencies. "I didn't come to occupy a position. I came to work," she declared, emphasizing her mission to reclaim victory in 2028, reform systems, and revive hope in the NPP.
For years, the NPP has set ambitious electoral targets in the Volta Region, traditionally a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Etornam is confident that, with effective mobilization and renewed energy within the women's wing, the NPP can secure between 150,000 and 200,000 votes in the 2028 general election.
In her message to delegates, Etornam outlined a practical approach instead of relying on campaign slogans. As a public relations practitioner, she plans to amplify the stories and contributions of NPP women at the grassroots level. She also aims to connect party women with skills training and support for small businesses.
Her background in skills development gives her insight into the realities faced by women in markets and startups across communities such as Ho, Keta, Battor, Adidome, Kpando, Hohoe, Kpeve, and Sogakope. "This is a shared vision," she told supporters, emphasizing her commitment to re-energizing the women's wing and securing victory for the party.
Party insiders say her entry has shifted the conversation around youth participation within the NPP in the Volta Region. Her profile as a young entrepreneur and communications professional sets her apart from other contenders at a time when political parties are pressured to connect with younger voters.
The Regional Women Organizer position is crucial for grassroots mobilization, coordinating women's activities, and driving voter registration efforts. Etornam believes reforming the women's wing's operations is essential for making the Volta Region more politically competitive. "Hope is not a campaign word. Hope is jobs, training, dignity, and a party structure that answers when you call," she said.
