Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government's flagship 24-hour economy policy has officially become law, marking a significant step toward enhancing productivity and generating employment opportunities across Ghana. Speaking during the 69th Ghana Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee House, President Mahama revealed that he had signed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill into law, allowing businesses and industries to operate in multiple shifts.
According to Ghana Web, the president emphasized the transformative potential of this reform for Ghana's economy, advocating for continuous production and the expansion of employment opportunities in various sectors. "This historic reform will boost Ghana's productivity," he declared. "Businesses will be incentivised to run across multiple shifts. Factories will operate around the clock, and services will become more accessible to our citizens."
The initiative is anticipated to create thousands of jobs in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, transportation, and security. President Mahama highlighted that the policy would facilitate better utilization of existing infrastructure, positioning Ghana as a competitive industrial hub. "This initiative will enable us to optimize the use of our national infrastructure and establish Ghana as a competitive industrial hub. And this is how we will create prosperity," he explained.
In addition to the 24-hour economy initiative, President Mahama announced efforts to expand opportunities for women entrepreneurs through the establishment of a Women's Development Bank. This bank aims to provide financing and business support tailored specifically to women-led enterprises, strengthening the country's informal sector and accelerating economic growth. "When women succeed, families thrive, and nations prosper," he remarked.
