Accra: Madam Eureka Abbey, an Entrepreneur and Programme Lead for Goshen Star Foundation, has urged parents to instill reading habits in their children from an early age. She emphasized that cultivating reading skills early helps build knowledge and prevents future difficulties related to reading.
According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Abbey made these remarks during the 8th Durbar of Excellence and Community Service at the Momo Montessori Academy in Hohoe. She highlighted that reading not only imparts wisdom but also allows parents to engage with their children and monitor their progress. Encouraging parental involvement, she stated that understanding and addressing children's challenges is crucial for their development.
Madam Abbey further explained that reading enhances children's knowledge, vocabulary, and cognitive functions. She motivated young learners to utilize library resources to strengthen their reading habits, aligning with the event's theme: 'Igniting a love for reading; fueling futures one book at a time.'
Mrs. Comfort Honu-Agbley, Proprietoress of the Academy, echoed the importance of fostering a passion for reading among young learners, stating that reading opens doors to new worlds and opportunities, laying a foundation for lifelong learning. She urged parents to lead by example by setting aside digital distractions and reading to their children, creating a dedicated reading time at home.
Mrs. Honu-Agbley stressed that supervision is most effective in a quiet environment free from television or phones. She emphasized the role of mentors, teachers, and a supportive community in children's development, advocating for healthy family and community support systems.
Additionally, Madam Honu-Agbley announced that the Academy's community service initiative would extend to the Children's Ward of the Volta Regional Hospital in Hohoe, aiming to nurture compassion among students.
