Accra: A distraught father is demanding justice for his seven-year-old son, Okyem Nyamekye Mustbedone, who was allegedly beaten by his headmistress after being accused of stealing money at school. The father of the victim shared his son's ordeal on Oyerepa Afutuo programme on June 3, 2026, where he recounted how the incident left his son injured and hospitalised.
According to Ghana Web, the father described the situation tearfully, with videos showing him in distress as he recounted the incident. Other videos depicted the boy's back covered in large cane marks, struggling to move his left arm and exhibiting a hunched posture. The father stated that his son, a KG2 student, was accused of stealing money from the school. Initially, the missing amount was reported as GHS300 but was later clarified to be GHS120. Despite the boy's denial and his teacher's pleas of his innocence, the headmistress allegedly insisted on his guilt.
The father further alleged that the headmistress administered severe punishment despite the child's denial and his class teacher's intervention. Senior students reportedly pinned the boy down, stripped him, and paraded him from class to class while beating him, ending at the JHS 1 class. The headmistress allegedly took him to her office and stamped on him, resulting in a fractured arm.
The child's father noticed changes in his condition upon returning home and immediately sought medical attention. He reported the incident to the police and obtained a medical report before taking his son to the hospital, where a doctor confirmed the arm fracture and prescribed medication.
Subsequently, another pupil admitted to taking the money, exonerating the boy. The father narrated that his son was hospitalized for a week and expressed disappointment that teachers did not visit him in the hospital. He also mentioned that his son had developmental delays, affecting his school start age, and is now calling for authorities to investigate and ensure justice is served.
