Lower dixcove: Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove, has expressed concerns over the delay in the construction of the Petroleum Hub project, highlighting the growing disillusionment among the youth of the Western Region regarding its realization.
According to Ghana Web, the youth were initially promised job opportunities when the project was announced, but the ongoing delays have fueled skepticism about its eventual completion. During a meeting between the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) and the Western Regional House of Chiefs, Nana Agyeman IX noted that while the chiefs and the people of the Western Region fully back the project, the lack of tangible progress has led to increasing doubts.
He urged the government and the PHDC to accelerate the project, emphasizing that the people of the Western Region are eagerly awaiting the jobs it promises. Nana Agyeman IX lamented the lack of visible progress despite assurances and urged for prompt action to reassure the community.
His views were echoed by Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, the Paramount Chief of the Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area. Tetrete expressed concerns that the slow pace of the project is causing the chiefs and people of the Western Region to lose faith in its completion. Despite the government's strong verbal support, he noted, there has been little concrete progress, leading to doubts about the political will to advance the project.
In response to these concerns, Dr. Toni Aubynn assured the chiefs and the Western Region that the Petroleum Hub project has the full support of the government and significant interest from investors. He highlighted recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East as underscoring the project's urgency and reiterated the government's commitment to securing Ghana's energy future through its completion. Dr. Aubynn mentioned President John Dramani Mahama's personal interest in the project, with directives issued to expedite the land acquisition process.
