Tarkwa: The Western Central Regional Police Command has firmly denied circulating media reports alleging that the suspects involved in the murder of Mr. Andrews Amankwah at Owhim Tigo Junction in Kumasi have escaped from lawful custody.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Command labeled the publication as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard such claims. This clarification was part of a press statement issued by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Beatrice Turkson, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Central Regional Police Command, Tarkwa.
The statement detailed that the accused individuals, identified as Kojo Amponsah (alias Kamakazie), Emmanuel Appiah (alias Taller), and Tanko Bashiru (alias TK), have been presented before a court and subsequently remanded into custody at the Tarkwa Local Prison. Furthermore, the suspects are scheduled to reappear before the court on May 7, 2026.
Additionally, the statement mentioned that a team from the Regional Command visited the suspects at the Tarkwa Local Prison on Monday, April 27, 2026, confirming that all three individuals remain in lawful custody.
The Command issued a warning to the public against fabricating and disseminating false information, which could incite fear and panic or erode public confidence. Such actions, the Command stressed, are punishable under the laws of Ghana and could lead to arrest and prosecution.
It is noteworthy that the three suspects were apprehended on February 22 and 26, 2026, through intelligence-led operations. Their arrests were connected not only to the murder case but also to a series of suspected car theft incidents, including those reported in Tarkwa.
