Owhim Tigo Junction Murder Case: Police Refute Claims of Suspects Escaping Custody

Tarkwa: The Western Central Regional Police Command has denied publications circulating in the media alleging that accused persons who were arrested in connection with the murder of Mr. Andrews Amankwah at Owhim Tigo Junction in Kumasi have escaped from lawful custody.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Command stated that the publication was false, misleading, and should be disregarded by the public. This was contained in a press statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Beatrice Turkson, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Western Central Regional Police Command, Tarkwa.

The statement detailed that the accused persons, Kojo Amponsah, alias Kamakazie, Emmanuel Appiah, alias Taller, and Tanko Bashiru alias TK, were put before court and have been remanded into prison custody at the Tarkwa Local Prison. They were expected to reappear before the court on May 7, 2026.

A team from the Regional Command visited the accused persons at the Tarkwa Local Prison on Monday, April 27, 2026, and confirmed that they were all in custody. The Command reminded the public that creating and circulating false news that could cause fear, panic, or undermine public confidence might lead to arrest and prosecution under the laws of Ghana.

It would be recalled that on February 22, and 26, 2026, through intelligence-led operations, the Police arrested the three accused persons from their various hideouts in Kumasi in connection with the murder and a series of suspected car theft cases, including incidents reported in Tarkwa.
