Accra: Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has expressed criticism towards certain members of the clergy who, he noted, were vocally critical during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration but have been notably silent under the current government.
According to Ghana Web, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu shared his expectations for pastors who were outspoken during the previous administration to maintain their vocal stance under the current regime as well. He remarked, "I expect some pastors who spoke in the previous administration to speak. For whatever reasons, these same pastors have refused to speak under this regime."
In an interview clip disseminated by SIKA OFFICIAL on July 27, 2026, on X, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu further elaborated on the responsibility of religious leaders to consistently proclaim the word of God, regardless of the political party in power. He suggested that many pastors have refrained from speaking out due to appointments in the present government, implying a conflict of interest. "God's words never change. The word of God is always spoken as it is, so you have to do what you did and say what you said in the previous government in the new government," he stated.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, currently serving as the Chief of Staff in Dr. Bawumia's office, reiterated his belief that the silence of these pastors is tied to positions they have received within the current administration. "And all these pastors have been given positions in this government, so they have refused to speak," he alleged.
