Old Students Contribute Over GH?100,000 to Support LAWSEC’s Speech and Prize Giving Day

Lawra: The Lawra Senior High School Old Students Association (LASSOSA) has generously contributed over GH?100,000 to support this year's Speech and Prize Giving Day at their alma mater, Lawra Senior High School (LAWSEC). According to Ghana News Agency, as of February 03, 2026, the association had raised a total of GH?105,755.77 through contributions from its members to aid the event's organization. Part of the funds will be used to procure a siren to improve information dissemination within the school, especially during emergencies. Mr. Ali Cheffa, President of LASSOSA, expressed that the contribution was driven by a desire to give back to the institution that played a pivotal role in shaping the lives and careers of its alumni. LAWSEC has produced prominent figures who have made significant contributions at both national and global levels. Notable alumni include Navy Capt. (Rtd.) Kamal-Deen Ali (PhD), Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, and Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, Director-Gene ral of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority. The association also recognized the efforts of its late former President, Major General Francis Vib-Sanziri, in fostering the association's growth. Major General Vib-Sanziri, who served as the Ghanaian Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force in Israel from 2017 to 2019, had also been the National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation in Ghana. The event, themed 'Raising Standards in Schools Through Discipline: A Collective Responsibility,' took place on Thursday, February 5, 2026. It was organized under the leadership of Mr. Baro Primus, the headmaster of the school, and chaired by Naa Puowele Karbo III, the Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Area and Life Patron of the school. Distinguished guests included Professor Emmanuel K. Derbile, Vice Chancellor of the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies, and Mr. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Upper West Regional Minister.
