Obuasi: The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East, William Kofi Adzowu, has outlined a number of development achievements recorded within his first year in office during a media and stakeholder engagement session. The engagement served as a platform to present a transparent account of his stewardship, outline major developmental achievements, address ongoing challenges, and unveil strategic plans for the remainder of 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the MCE expressed gratitude to the traditional authorities, staff of the Assembly, and the citizens of Obuasi East for their support since he assumed office on May 15, 2025. He emphasized his administration's commitment to transforming the municipality through investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.
Demonstrating strong fiscal discipline and innovative revenue mobilisation strategies, the MCE revealed impressive performance in Internally Generated Funds (IGF). According to him, the Assembly generated GHS3,859,326.79, achieving 98.76 percent of the budgeted figure of GHS3,900,708.45 for the period. This fiscal performance has provided the Assembly with the resources needed to fund critical local development initiatives.
To improve educational outcomes, the administration prioritized several school infrastructure projects across the municipality. These include the construction of various classroom blocks and facilities to expand access to education. A new classroom block was also constructed at Domeabra, enhancing educational access in the community.
In healthcare, William Kofi Adzowu highlighted ongoing interventions at Domeabra and Ayease, where health centres are under construction. These facilities aim to improve healthcare delivery and staff retention. Additionally, 30 mechanised boreholes have been installed across communities to improve access to potable water.
To enhance connectivity, the Assembly constructed an alternative road linking Tutuka-Tiatiaso to Boete, supported by a double box culvert. The relocation of traders to the New Boete Timber Market was also highlighted, improving local trade and spatial planning. Further, the completion of the Akaporiso Community Centre and the procurement of a new utility vehicle were announced to boost operational efficiency.
Looking ahead, William Kofi Adzowu outlined a development agenda for 2026 focused on institutional strengthening, healthcare, education, and economic industrialisation. Key initiatives include establishing the Kwabenakwa Nursing School, completing the permanent Obuasi East Municipal Administration Block, and constructing several municipal offices and headquarters. Plans also include economic development initiatives like a 24-hour economy market to stimulate commerce and create jobs.
The engagement concluded with a question-and-answer session, where the MCE assured stakeholders that challenges identified during his first year are being addressed. He reiterated the progress made reflects the collective effort of Obuasi East's people, pledging continued work towards sustainable development and improved living conditions.
