Accra: Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has expressed his openness to the departure of frustrated party members, including Kennedy Agyapong, should they feel disenchanted.
According to Ghana Web, Boahen stated that if Agyapong and his supporters believe they have a substantial support base to leave the NPP, they should proceed. He conveyed his frustration with what he termed as 'tantrums' from the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and his followers. Boahen mentioned that Alan Kyerematen's departure and subsequent electoral performance serve as a precedent, suggesting that those disgruntled should test their support outside the party.
Boahen emphasized that the incessant criticism directed at party figures like Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira, is unwarranted and detrimental to the party's unity. He highlighted that such remarks contribute to existing divisions, particularly noting a statement about the Mamprusi community's role in the party, which he found particularly damaging.
In his remarks, Boahen reiterated the need for respectful discourse within the party ranks, stressing that vilifying individuals based on their ethnic background is unacceptable and counterproductive to the party's goals.
