Accra: A new survey by Global InfoAnalytics indicates that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may struggle to maintain its stronghold in the Ashanti Region in the upcoming 2028 elections.
According to Ghana Web, the poll reveals that while NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia continues to lead against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates, he garners around 56-57% support compared to the 34-35% secured by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Johnson Asiedu Nketiah. This marks a decline from the 65% Bawumia achieved in the 2024 elections.
The survey highlights that Kennedy Agyapong, through his Base Movement, could capture 5-6% of the overall votes, performing particularly well among individuals who did not participate in the 2024 elections. The post also suggests that Agyapong might pose a greater threat to NPP's hold in Ashanti than Alan Kyerematen could.
Despite Bawumia's strong loyalty among 2024 voters, the data indicates potential risks of vote-splitting and crossover support, which could undermine the party's dominance in the region.
