Accra: A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has stated that the party will resist any efforts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to silence its members.
According to Ghana Web, Botchway Jnr's remarks came in response to recent actions involving the raid on the home of the former GIHOC boss Maxwell Kofi Jumah and the remand of the party's Communications Officer in Sunyani East, Abubakar Yakubu, known as Baba Amando. Speaking on Channel One TV on April 15, 2026, he expressed concerns over what he perceives as unfair treatment and political inconsistency.
Botchway Jnr emphasized that the NPP will not accept any attempts to silence its members, arguing that there is a noticeable pattern of unequal treatment. He pointed out that while one side faces consequences, the other seemingly escapes accountability for similar or even more severe actions.
The issue of Baba Amando's remand over allegations of publishing false news was highlighted by the NPP communicator as a concerning development. Botchway Jnr questioned the handling of the case, especially in comparison to how similar political statements have been addressed in the past.
He further argued that political actors have previously made severe accusations without facing comparable legal actions, implying selective enforcement of laws. Botchway Jnr questioned why the current situation is being treated differently, suggesting that there is a discrepancy in the application of justice.
