Accra: Ghanaian actor and staunch New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporter, Prince David Osei, has declared that the voices of Ghanaians cannot be silenced as the party stages its "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration on August 6. In a post shared on social media ahead of the demonstration, Prince David Osei emphasized the party's quest for a true democracy where citizens can freely exercise their constitutional rights without fear of intimidation or arrest.
According to Ghana Web, the NPP aims to defend the rule of law, constitutional governance, and democratic accountability through this demonstration. The party describes the protest as a response to what it sees as growing threats to Ghana's democratic principles under the current administration. The "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration is part of the NPP's campaign against increasing political persecution, selective justice, and the abuse of state institutions.
The NPP's concerns include the acquittal and discharge of former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, which the party argues raises questions about the consistency and impartiality of the country's justice system. Additionally, the NPP is protesting against what it claims are arbitrary arrests, detentions, and alleged harassment of its members by state investigative and security agencies. The party contends that these actions are politically motivated and intended to intimidate opposition members.
Thousands of party supporters, sympathizers, and executives from across Ghana are expected to participate in the demonstration, which is scheduled to begin at the forecourt of the Supreme Court in Accra.
