Accra: The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced October 3, 2026, as the date for its National Executive Elections. Nominations for the elections will open on August 17, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the party's statement dated August 11, 2026, outlines a detailed timetable for the election process. Nominations will close on August 22, with the filing of nominations scheduled from August 23 to 27. Aspirants will undergo vetting from August 31 to September 3, with results published on September 5. The appeals process for vetting decisions will take place on September 6 and 7, followed by a NEC/NC meeting on September 10. The notice of poll will be published on September 14, 2026.
Prospective candidates must have been active registered members for at least two years, must be in good standing, and must have paid their membership dues for at least two years. They must also meet the requirements set by the National Vetting Committee and secure endorsements from at least one member in good standing from each of the 16 regions. Candidates for the National Youth Organiser position must be below 40 years. Members of the National Elections Committee are not eligible to contest, and any member intending to contest must be replaced by the National Executive Committee.
Nomination form fees range from GHS8,000 to GHS50,000. The form for the National Chairman position costs GHS50,000, while forms for Vice Chairpersons and General Secretary positions cost GHS30,000 and GHS25,000, respectively. Other national positions and special wing positions cost GHS10,000 and GHS8,000.
The elections will include positions such as National Chairperson, Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, Treasurer, Organiser, Women Organiser, Youth Organiser, Nasara Organiser, and Communication Director. The Electoral Commission will conduct the elections under the supervision of the NPP National Elections Committee, adhering to the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574).
The National Vetting Committee is chaired by former Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah, with former Attorney General Joe Ghartey chairing the Appeals Committee. Appeals should be resolved within 48 hours, with a further appeal option available to the National Executive Committee.
The electoral college will include party structures such as national, regional, and constituency executives, external branch executives, the National Council of Elders, NPP Members of Parliament, TESCON representatives, national patrons, founding members, and representatives of the party's special wings. Special wing elections will see female delegates elect the National Women Organiser, youth delegates elect the National Youth Organiser, and Nasara delegates elect the National Nasara Organiser. At least one-third of delegates must be present to form a quorum at the National Delegates Conference.
