Kumasi: The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has instructed the Ashanti Regional Steering Committee to promptly organize re-runs of internal elections that remain unresolved in three constituencies within the Ashanti Region.
According to Ghana Web, the directive, which is outlined in a letter dated August 31, 2026, and signed by Acting National Chairman Danquah/Butte Smith, addresses the Afigya Sekyere East, Adansi Asokwa, and Atwima Mponua constituencies. The party cited challenges that previously hindered the smooth execution of internal elections in these constituencies as the reason for the re-runs.
The National Party has decided that the pending elections will be re-conducted following the NPP Constitution, its election regulations, and all relevant guidelines. In the Afigya Sekyere East and Adansi Asokwa constituencies, the Ashanti Regional Steering Committee has been tasked with overseeing the re-run of the Polling Station, Electoral Area, and Constituency Executive Elections.
Moreover, the party has directed the Regional Steering Committee to manage and supervise the re-run of the Polling Station and Electoral Area elections at Mpasatia and Bedabour in the Atwima Mponua Constituency. The directive specifies that once these elections are successfully completed, the party should advance with the Constituency Executive Elections in Atwima Mponua.
The NPP has set September 21, 2026, as the deadline for finalizing all outstanding electoral processes. Rita Asobayire and Cornelius Owusu Asare have been appointed to coordinate and facilitate the execution of these directives. The Acting National Chairman has emphasized to the Regional Steering Committee the importance of prioritizing this matter and ensuring adherence to the stipulated timeline.
