Accra: Former Deputy Minister of Energy, Collins Adomako Mensah, has voiced his concern over the resurgence of power outages, commonly known as 'dumsor', while expressing fears of arrest that are hindering open public discourse on the issue. The Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North shared his apprehensions during an appearance on Adom TV's Badwam on May 20, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, Adomako Mensah, who is also a member of the Parliament's Energy Committee, highlighted his hesitation in speaking freely about the ongoing power issues due to what he perceives as increasing tension surrounding criticism of the energy sector. He recounted a personal experience of a power outage while traveling from his constituency, noting his reluctance to discuss it openly for fear of arrest.
Adomako Mensah further elaborated that his concerns are primarily driven by the actions of security agencies, which have led to a heightened sense of caution among public figures. He specifically mentioned his apprehension regarding the police, stating that it has resulted in a general silence among those who might otherwise speak out.
The MP referenced the recent arrest and detention of David Essandoh, the NPP Organiser for Agona West, who was taken into custody after allegedly criticizing President John Dramani Mahama over the return of 'dumsor'. Adomako Mensah indicated that the incident has reinforced his decision to remain silent on the issue to avoid similar repercussions.
