Accra: The Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe Constituency, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has expressed commendation for President John Dramani Mahama's approval of a multi-lateral visa agreement designed to facilitate travel across African nations. This move is anticipated to transform travel, trade, and diplomatic relations on the continent.
According to Ghana Web, Shaib referred to the policy as a 'historic leap for continental unity' and emphasized that it would allow citizens of participating African countries to cross borders without undergoing traditional visa processes, which are often costly and restrictive. This initiative is expected to create new opportunities for businesspeople, students, and tourists, while fostering intra-African trade and cultural exchange.
Shaib highlighted that the agreement aligns with the African Union's broader integration agenda, which promotes unity, economic cooperation, and free movement among member states. He pointed out the potential benefits for Ghana, noting that the country could emerge as both a leader and beneficiary of enhanced continental connectivity.
He elaborated on how reduced travel barriers would enable Ghanaian entrepreneurs and professionals to access new markets, build partnerships, and expand their networks across Africa. Additionally, he mentioned that the policy would simplify entry for visitors from other African nations, bolstering growth in sectors such as trade, education, and tourism.
Shaib shared these insights during the Kwahu Business Forum at Mpreaso in the Eastern Region. While acknowledging potential challenges in implementing the agreement, including harmonizing entry protocols and maintaining border security, Shaib expressed confidence that the long-term advantages would surpass any initial hurdles. He urged citizens and stakeholders to support the initiative, describing it as a transformative step toward a more connected and united Africa.
