Accra: The Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has openly criticized President John Dramani Mahama's administration for failing to implement the National Democratic Congress's (NDC) flagship 24-hour economy policy. This policy, known as 'one job, three shifts (1-3-3)', was aimed at reducing youth unemployment but remains largely unfulfilled nearly a year into Mahama's term.
According to Ghana Web, Jinapor voiced his concerns on February 5, 2026, during a session in Parliament. He accused the government of deception, stating that the policy, which promised three shifts of eight-hour jobs for unemployed Ghanaian youth, has not been realized. He argued that the only institution resembling a three-shift system is the Office of the Speaker of Parliament, with Alban Bagbin, Bernard Ahiafor, and Andrew Asiamah taking turns in their roles.
Jinapor emphasized that this scenario does not constitute a true 24-hour economy or adhere to the promised eight-hour shifts. He criticized the government for misleading the public and raising false expectations among the youth. Jinapor asserted that the Mahama administration's handling of the policy is another gimmick designed to buy time and give false hope to unemployed individuals.
The Damongo MP concluded by insisting that the government be held accountable for its unfulfilled campaign promises, urging them to deliver on their commitment to the nation's youth.
