Tarkwa: Some aggrieved members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency have called for an independent investigation into the conduct of the party's recent polling station elections. The group has also demanded the annulment of results and processes deemed to have breached the party's electoral guidelines.
According to Ghana News Agency, during a press conference in Tarkwa, Mr. Ampoful Adu Narkaah, convenor for the group, stated that the NPP had announced an electoral process to elect party executives at various levels, beginning from the polling station, as part of strengthening its internal democratic structures ahead of the 2028 elections. The party introduced clear rules and guidelines to ensure the credibility, transparency, fairness, and inclusiveness of the exercise.
Mr. Narkaah expressed that the events in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency contradicted the established rules and guidelines. He highlighted issues such as unjustifiable exclusion, arbitrary disqualifications, and intimidation faced by several committed party members during the registration, nomination, vetting, and election processes. The concerns raised by the affected members were ignored, and complaints submitted through the internal channels received no meaningful attention from both the constituency and regional leadership.
The developments have led to widespread dissatisfaction, mistrust, division, and a growing sense of injustice among party faithful within the constituency. Mr. Narkaah concluded that the electoral process in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency lacked fairness, transparency, credibility, and inclusiveness, thereby compromising the integrity and legitimacy of the entire exercise.
The convenor emphasized that the group's actions aim to uphold the democratic principles, fairness, transparency, and unity upon which the NPP was founded. They believe that genuine unity cannot be achieved where injustice, intimidation, exclusion, and manipulation prevail. The group insists on fresh and transparent elections across the constituency, in line with polling station election guidelines and under the supervision of the National Elections Committee.
Mr. Narkaah called on the national leadership of the party and all relevant stakeholders to urgently intervene to restore confidence in the process and preserve unity within the party at the constituency level.
