Accra: The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has held the Mahama government accountable for the flooding that occurred on June 29, 2026, impacting parts of Accra and other communities. The party has called for more decisive measures in managing flood control.
According to Ghana Web, the NPP released a statement on Monday expressing solidarity with the thousands of Ghanaians affected by the recent floods. The party criticized the current administration, urging the NDC government under President Mahama to move beyond mere rhetoric and take substantial action to address the nation's flood control requirements.
The NPP identified several areas affected by the flooding, including the N1 Highway, Apenkwa, Achimota, Kaneshie, Weija, Spintex, Darkuman Junction, and the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange. The party highlighted concerns over the fragmented structure for managing flood control under the Mahama administration, with responsibilities distributed across multiple ministries.
Furthermore, the party raised questions regarding the effectiveness of anti-flood interventions and the allocation of funds for drainage projects. The NPP also mentioned President Mahama's previous remarks attributing flooding partly to human behavior and environmental practices, emphasizing the need for a more coordinated approach to tackle the recurring flooding issues in the affected regions.
