Accra: The Northern Region Muslims Council of Ghana has extended its condolences to the Royal Family, the people of the Dagbon Kingdom, and the entire nation on the passing of Ya-Na Abukari II, Overlord of Dagbon. It expressed deep sadness and grief over the painful loss, noting that the death of Ya-Na is not only a significant loss to the Dagbon Kingdom but also to the entire Muslim Ummah.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Council emphasized Ya-Na Abukari II's recent efforts in reconciling feuding Imams at his Palace as a fresh testament to his leadership. The statement, issued by the Council's Chairman Sheikh Issah Abubakari Alhassan, highlighted his wisdom, exemplary leadership, and unwavering commitment to peace and unity among Muslim sects, which contributed to the harmonious coexistence in Dagbon.
The statement further noted Ya-Na's support for Islam, his close relationship with the Muslim community, and his continuous encouragement of Islamic values. These efforts significantly promoted peace and religious tolerance in the region. As they mourn the irreplaceable loss, the Council takes solace in his wise counsel, leadership, and enduring legacy, which will continue to inspire future generations.
The Council called on all Muslims and Dagbamba to remain calm, united, and prayerful throughout the mourning period. It urged everyone, especially Muslims, to respect the traditions and customs associated with the funeral rites of the late Ya-Na, emphasizing the importance of upholding peace, mutual respect, and harmony during this solemn occasion.
The statement concluded with a prayer for Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the beloved Overlord, grant him Jannatul Firdaus, and provide the Royal Family, the Chiefs, and the people of Dagbon, as well as the entire Muslim Ummah, the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss.
