Tamale: The German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshoft, has emphasized the pivotal role of youth innovation and entrepreneurship in the transformation of Northern Ghana. He asserted that the future of the region cannot solely rely on development projects but necessitates the active participation of young entrepreneurs, risk-taking farmers, and innovators.
According to Ghana Web, Mr. Landshoft highlighted the importance of creating an environment conducive to success for young people who choose to build their future in Northern Ghana. He stressed that this responsibility lies with all development stakeholders. "The future of northern Ghana will not be built by projects. It will be built by entrepreneurs, by farmers who decide to take a risk, by business owners who invest, by innovators who turn ideas into products, by young people who choose to build their futures here, to create the conditions in which they can succeed in our shared task," the German Ambassador stated.
The Ambassador's remarks came during the official launch of the Private Sector and Innovation Promotion Project (PSInno) in Tamale. This initiative, executed by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in collaboration with Ghana's Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, aims to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, job creation, and the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially in agribusiness and the digital economy. It also aims to create sustainable opportunities for youth and women.
According to the German Ambassador, the PSInno project signifies Germany's growing commitment to Northern Ghana. He pointed out that this initiative builds on Germany's long-standing support in areas such as agriculture, education, and economic development. Mr. Landshoft said, "Germany has supported the establishment of the Savannah Agricultural Research Institute. We have worked alongside regional institutions to strengthen governance and accountability. We have invested in communities, education, peace-building, and economic development, and PS-Inno builds on that foundation."
Cynthia Djakoto, the Director of MSME Development at the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, remarked on the critical role of MSMEs in Ghana's economic progress. She stated that the PSInno Project would enhance entrepreneurs' capacities, improve business competitiveness, and generate sustainable employment opportunities, particularly for youth and women. Djakoto encouraged local business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs to leverage the programme's training, mentorship, and networking benefits.
In a message conveyed on his behalf, Northern Regional Minister Ali Adolf John stressed the project's significance in fostering economic growth and enhancing livelihoods in Northern Ghana. He pledged the Regional Coordinating Council's steadfast support for initiatives empowering young people and fortifying local businesses.
