Accra: The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has cautioned the public against attacking health professionals over perceived negligence. Speaking to journalists after commissioning a Free Primary Healthcare post at the Madina Polyclinic, he acknowledged that while a few individuals may be tarnishing the image of the profession, the majority of health professionals continue to serve diligently and deserve recognition.
According to Ghana Web, Mintah Akandoh detailed reforms to improve emergency care, emphasizing his support for the hardworking health professionals. "I will talk to our health professionals. Of course, let me admit and celebrate those who are doing wonderfully well. Let us not create an impression as though it is all of them. Majority of them are doing well, but there are very few ones who are destroying the image of their profession," he stated.
Mintah Akandoh further noted that some healthcare workers operate under intense pressure and difficult conditions, which may sometimes influence their behavior. "Sometimes, if you are not there and you don't understand the circumstances they find themselves in, you may also judge wrongly. Sometimes they become overwhelmed," he explained.
He maintained that regardless of any misunderstanding or misconduct in health facilities, members of the public must not resort to violence. "Irrespective of however any health professional will behave in any health facility, nobody, absolutely nobody has any right to attack the person. At best, you have to report, and we take it from there," he added.
