Nkenkaasu: Construction of a 24-Hour Economy Model Market has commenced at Nkenkaasu in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region, with the project expected to boost economic activities and create employment opportunities for residents.
According to Ghana News Agency, the project is being undertaken by Wazkad Ghana Limited as part of the government's 24-Hour Economy initiative, which aims to promote continuous business operations and expand economic opportunities across the country. Mr. Caeser Ofosu Acheampong, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Offinso North, spoke at the sod-cutting ceremony, highlighting how the project would transform the local economy and improve livelihoods through increased trade and investment.
He detailed that the facility would include essential services such as a police station, fire station, clinic, pharmacies, model school, restaurants, a women's bank, warehouse, lockable stores, open stalls, and other supporting infrastructure to facilitate round-the-clock commercial activities. Mr. Acheampong assured the contractor of the Assembly's support to ensure the project's successful and timely completion.
Furthermore, Mr. Acheampong appealed to the contractor to engage local artisans and skilled workers to enable residents to benefit directly from employment opportunities during the construction phase. He described the project as a significant intervention to strengthen commerce in the district and contribute to national efforts to promote economic growth through the 24-Hour Economy policy.
Nana Takyi II, Chief of Nkenkaasu, welcomed the project and expressed gratitude to the government for selecting the community as a beneficiary. He noted that the market would enhance commercial activities and improve income-generating opportunities for residents. The chief urged residents to remain united and maintain peace in the district to facilitate successful implementation of development projects.
He expressed optimism that the market would serve as a catalyst for economic transformation and sustainable development in the area.
