Accra: Traditional landowners of Nima have expressed their support for Ghana's High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, as he enters the race for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries for the Ayawaso East Constituency. This endorsement marks a significant development in the political landscape of the region.
According to Ghana Web, the endorsement was announced during a press conference held in Accra on February 3, 2026. The event was addressed by Nii Odoi Kwao II, the Head of the Nii Odoi Kwao Family of Osu, who hold the allodial title to the Akanetso lands, encompassing present-day Nima and its surrounding areas. Nii Odoi Kwao II emphasized the historical and legal significance of Nima as legitimate Ga land, citing numerous court rulings affirming their status.
The traditional leader articulated the community's desire for political leadership that is culturally knowledgeable, legally informed, and capable of advocating for Nima's interests on a national scale. The Nii Odoi Kwao Family's call for credible and principled leadership in the constituency is widely seen as an endorsement of Baba Jamal, who aims to secure the NDC's nomination.
Nii Odoi Kwao II stated, "We believe in the leadership of Baba Jamal and we support his bid to contest and win the seat," underscoring the family's confidence in his ability to represent the community.
