Accra: Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has issued a stern warning to newly recruited health professionals across the country to report to their designated duty stations by August 20, 2026, or face the possibility of losing their appointments.
According to Ghana Web, the minister emphasized the importance of the deadline to ensure that any vacancies left by recruits who do not report are swiftly filled with available personnel. Akandoh highlighted that financial clearance was secured prior to the recruitment exercise to prevent the accumulation of salary arrears for the new health professionals.
During a courtesy call by members of the Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives on August 12, 2026, Akandoh further explained that those recruits who reported early have already started receiving their salaries. He reiterated the Ministry's commitment to avoiding the delays that had previously affected some health professionals in prior recruitment cycles.
Akandoh stated, "I waited till I had financial clearance before we started doing that, and so those who reported early have even gotten their salaries, and so we are not going to pile any arrears this time around. And those who have not reported, with the greatest of respect, they must report before or on August 20."
He also noted that recruits who fail to meet the reporting deadline could forfeit their appointments, emphasizing the Ministry's plan to conduct a mop-up exercise immediately after August 20 to replace those who do not accept their postings.
