Accra: The Oti Regional Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a Youth Leaders' Empowerment Dialogue Session for students of the Kete-Krachi School of Nursing to strengthen their commitment to ethical leadership, transparency, accountability, and responsible citizenship.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Setriakor Gagakuma, Deputy Oti Regional Director of the NCCE, highlighted the vital role of young people in shaping Ghana's democratic future through principled leadership and ethical conduct. He emphasized that integrity is not just a personal virtue but a leadership responsibility that inspires trust, strengthens institutions, and promotes national development.
Mr Gagakuma encouraged nursing students to uphold honesty, fairness, and professionalism throughout their academic journey and future careers. He reminded them of their future roles as healthcare professionals in positions of public trust, urging them to maintain the highest ethical standards in their duties.
The Deputy Regional Director discussed topics such as youth leadership as a catalyst for good governance, conflict of interest in decision-making, influence peddling, abuse of office, and the rule of law and ethical leadership standards. He stressed that combating corruption begins with individual choices, urging student leaders to influence their peers by promoting accountability, integrity, and responsible citizenship.
Madam Gifty Amenuke, Krachi District Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), supported the discussion by emphasizing CHRAJ's constitutional role in promoting administrative justice, protecting human rights, and combating corruption. She encouraged students to familiarize themselves with accountability mechanisms and show courage in speaking out against unethical practices.
The interactive dialogue session included participants sharing experiences, asking questions, and proposing measures to promote integrity within the school community. The students pledged to serve as ambassadors of ethical leadership by promoting honesty, accountability, and respect for institutional rules among their peers.
This engagement is part of the NCCE's Civic Engagements on the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption initiative under the Participation, Accountability and Integrity for a Resilient Democracy (PAIReD) Programme. The programme aims to empower young leaders to champion integrity and uphold the rule of law within their institutions and communities.
The Youth Leaders' Empowerment Dialogue Sessions are implemented by the NCCE under the PAIReD Programme, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), co-financed by the European Union and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, with the NCCE serving as an implementing partner.
