Koforidua: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) organized a dialogue aimed at equipping youth leaders with knowledge on ethics, rule of law, transparency, and accountability. The event, held by the Eastern Regional Office of the NCCE, brought together students from the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) College of Education, All Nations University, and the Nursing and Midwifery Training College.
According to Ghana News Agency, Ms. Ophelia Nana Yaa Ankrah, the Eastern Regional Director of the NCCE, emphasized the importance of ethical leadership and respect for democratic governance. She noted the existing legal and institutional frameworks in Ghana but highlighted ongoing challenges such as corruption and weak adherence to ethical standards, which undermine national development and public trust.
Ms. Ankrah urged the youth to recognize their role in shaping the nation's future through the values they uphold and the decisions they make. The dialogue is part of the NCCE's Participation, Accountability and Integrity for a Resilient Democracy (PAIRED) Project, supported by international bodies including the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Union, and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.
Mr. Augustine Mensah Bosroti, the Deputy Eastern Regional Director of the NCCE, addressed conflict of interest issues, urging for strict enforcement of related policies and transparency. He highlighted that conflicts of interest could lead to poor decision-making and undermine public confidence in governance.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Augustine Asante Kusi discussed influence peddling, urging public officers to prioritize integrity, justice, and service. The dialogue aimed to empower youth with leadership skills to promote transparency, accountability, and rule of law adherence.
