Ghana: Ghanaian musician Mzbel has for the first time revealed intimate details about her personal life, admitting she has been married and divorced twice. The revelation comes while reacting to Sing-a-thon contender Afua Asantewaa publicly sharing her marital challenges.
According to Ghana Web, the revelations were made during an appearance on United Showbiz on Saturday, April 4, 2026, where Mzbel shared the struggles of her first marriage. She disclosed that she was very young when she married a man much older than her, explaining that he had helped her significantly at the time. Recounting her experiences, Mzbel stated, "I've been married twice and divorced twice, but nobody, including my family, knows. I was very young at the time, and this person was 28 years older than me."
Mzbel elaborated that her first marriage ended due to abuse she suffered after her musical career took off. She shared that her ex-husband became infuriated over small matters, such as her receiving text messages, which led to physical abuse. Mzbel commented, "And because he helped me, I didn't hesitate when he brought up marriage. He wanted to involve my family, but I disapproved because of my age, and I knew the family would have opposed. We got married later, but I left him after my career had peaked because he became abusive."
Mzbel explained that she finally decided to leave the marriage after realizing she had saved enough money to become financially independent. "One day, I realized I had saved enough money in my account and could start taking care of myself and rent my own place. He came back apologizing after I had left, but I didn't want the marriage anymore," she added.
Regarding her second marriage, Mzbel revealed that the divorce was kept private. "We didn't divorce; in the second marriage, we actually divorced, but no one heard of it. I didn't put the private issues of my second marriage out to the public because of the experience from my first marriage," she said.
