Kamgbunli: Muslims have been urged to stop using the Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations to engage in drinking alcohol and anything considered 'Haram'. Such practices have the tendency to mar the Eid celebration and bring the name of the Islamic faith into disrepute. Sheikh Mustapha Abdullah Kwesi Buah, Ellembelle District Chief Imam, gave the advice when he led hundreds of Muslims to observe Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations at the forecourt of the district mosque at Kamgbunli in the Western Region.
According to Ghana News Agency, Eid-Ul-Fitr marked the end of Ramadan after a one-month period of fasting and prayer. The District Chief Imam reminded Muslims in the area that the occasion of Eid-Ul-Fitr is not only a period of eating, drinking, and merry-making but more importantly, a way to thank God for his mercy, protection, and guidance. Sheikh Buah said Eid-Ul-Fitr was an occasion for appreciation, gratification, and thanksgiving for the accomplishments during the period of fasting.
He thanked Muslims in the area for their steadfastness and dedication in going through the holy month of Ramadan successfully. He appealed to them to use the occasion to re-unite with their families. Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, who was represented by Mr. Joseph Armah Agyekum, District Chief Executive (DCE), said the celebration must bring manifold blessings to families within the Islamic faith.
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah, who is also the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and Acting Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, expressed a strong desire that the celebration would foster a season of growth and togetherness among the Islamic front and the entire nation. He lauded the Muslim community for their commitment to peace, unity, love, and religious tolerance in the country. On behalf of Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the DCE donated some items to the Muslim community.
